Soran reduces electricity theft with new smart meters
SORAN, August 8 — The Soran Electricity Directorate in northern Erbil has successfully eliminated 70% of cases of electricity theft from the national grid in areas under the autonomous administration by installing a new electronic system.
Technical teams have been working to address violations on a daily basis, installing smart meters in various neighborhoods of the Mir Ksor district and Soran city.
Ardan Ibrahim, General Manager of Soran’s electricity administration told 964: “Until now, we have addressed 70% of the violations by installing smart meters, and the prepayment system will first be implemented in the industrial area, then extended to cover the city’s market. The industrial area in Soran receives electricity from a dedicated feeder.”
