Reports of illegal fishing lead to arrests on Sirwan River

SULAYMANIYAH, January 9 — A team from the Pebaz Forest and Environment Police Station apprehended four individuals engaged in illegal fishing activities on the Sirwan River, as poachers were found utilizing unauthorized equipment.

Hemn Kamarkhan, spokesperson for Sulaymaniyah Forest Police, told 964 that personnel from the Pebaz police station in Garmiyan district conducted an operation in the Sirwan River area, resulting in the arrest of the poachers.

The four offenders have been fined 600,000 dinars, and their equipment is slated for destruction. Pending a judge’s decision, the fishermen will remain in custody.
