Dhi Qar official denies pork was seized at Nasiriyah restaurant

NASIRIYAH — Reports that 200 kilograms of pork were confiscated from a restaurant in Nasiriyah are wrong and inspectors found spoiled meat, the head of Dhi Qar’s health and environment committee said.

“What is being circulated about the presence of pork in one of Nasiriyah’s restaurants is incorrect,” Ahmed Ghani al-Khafaji said. He said he had followed up with the assistant governor for national security on an inspection at a restaurant on Friday night, in which quantities of spoiled meat were seized. “The claim that it was pork is incorrect, as this has not been confirmed by the relevant regulatory authorities,” he said.

The reports followed a case in Najaf where a man was found to have been selling wild boar meat as beef and mutton, for which the Najaf Criminal Court sentenced him to 10 years.
