Five southern governorates at 45°C with rain possible in the northeast
BAGHDAD — Basra, Maysan, Dhi Qar, Muthanna and Wasit are forecast at 45°C on Sunday, while light showers remain possible in the northeast, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.
Karbala, Najaf, Diwaniyah and Babil are expected at 44°C, Baghdad, Diyala and Salah al-Din at 43°C, Anbar 42°C, Nineveh 41°C and Kirkuk 40°C. In the Kurdistan Region, Erbil is forecast at 39°C and Duhok and Sulaymaniyah at 37°C, with partly cloudy conditions across much of the north.
Temperatures are close to Saturday’s. Winds will be light to moderate and variable at 10 to 20 km/h with calm periods, and visibility 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km in parts of the south and east in morning haze.
Monday holds at the same levels, with the five southern governorates again at 45°C, Baghdad at 43°C and Duhok and Sulaymaniyah coolest at 37°C. Conditions stay mostly clear in the centre and south through Thursday, with cloud in the north and a slight dip on Tuesday.
