Temperatures climb again from Tuesday with 47°C forecast in the south

BAGHDAD — Temperatures across Iraq will rise from Tuesday, with highs of 47°C in Basra, Dhi Qar and Maysan governorates, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said Monday.

Skies will be generally clear Tuesday and Wednesday, with some cloud over northern Iraq.

Tuesday’s highs are forecast at 47°C in Basra, Dhi Qar and Maysan, 45°C in Wasit, Najaf, Babil, Diwaniyah and Muthanna, and 44°C in Baghdad, Kirkuk, Karbala, Nineveh, Salah al-Din and Diyala. Erbil and Anbar are expected to reach 43°C, and Duhok and Sulaymaniyah 42°C.

Thursday and Friday will also be generally clear with some cloud in the north. Temperatures are expected to rise slightly again on Thursday in central areas and hold near current levels in the north and south, and to stay largely unchanged nationwide on Friday.
