Journalist Lanaz Kurdo, 22, dies in Sulaymaniyah traffic crash

SULAYMANIYAH — Journalist Lanaz Kurdo died early Tuesday when her vehicle struck a pillar of Debashan Bridge on Malik Mahmoud Ring Road in Sulaymaniyah at high speed, killing her at the scene. She was 22.

Sulaymaniyah traffic officer Ari Ibrahim said the car lost control due to speed before hitting the pillar.

Kurdo had worked for several local outlets, including Moral Media, Mic Media, PRS Media and Kurdistan Press.

She was the daughter of the late poet Kurdo Abdullah, who also died last year.

Her death comes a day after another journalist from the Kurdistan Region died in a car crash. Rudaw reporter Halkawt Aziz, head of the network’s Baghdad bureau, died from injuries sustained in a traffic crash on the Baghdad-Basra highway.
