Iraq, UK discuss bilateral ties and political process in Baghdad meeting

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein on Tuesday received Helena Vega, chief operating officer at the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, to discuss bilateral relations and political developments in Iraq.

According to a statement from the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the meeting addressed relations between the Republic of Iraq and the United Kingdom and ways to enhance joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest in a manner that serves both countries.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mr. Fuad Hussein, received on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, in Baghdad, Ms. Helena Vega, Chief Operating Officer at the British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

During the meeting, bilateral relations between the Republic of Iraq and the United Kingdom were discussed, as well as avenues to enhance joint cooperation in areas of mutual interest, in a manner that serves the interests of the two friendly countries.

The meeting also addressed the ongoing efforts to form the Iraqi government and the constitutional entitlements related to the selection of the President of the Republic, emphasizing the importance of supporting political stability and strengthening the democratic process in Iraq.
