Three suspected narcotics dealers arrested in Kalar after joint operation

KALAR — Three suspected narcotics dealers were arrested in Kalar after a joint operation by the Anti-Narcotics Directorate and Garmiyan Asayish, the Sulaymaniyah General Directorate of Asayish said Sunday.

The directorate said the arrests took place on Dec. 1 in Kalar city after prior intelligence gathering, close monitoring and pursuit, and were carried out under an investigative judge’s order.

Security forces seized four kilograms of hashish, 1.3 kilograms of crystal meth and 3,000 stimulant pills, according to the statement.

The suspects were detained under Article 26 of the Law on Combating Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, and the investigation is ongoing.

Authorities across the governorate have carried out repeated operations targeting drug trafficking networks in recent months as concerns over drug abuse and cross-border smuggling continue to grow.

In the first six months of the year, security forces in Sulaymaniyah said they arrested 388 dealers and users and seized nearly 350 kilograms of narcotics. Of those detained, 72 were accused of involvement in cross-border trafficking, while 173 were identified as drug users.
