Iraq election commission says 23 million ballot papers printed in UAE with strict security features
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission said Saturday that more than 23 million ballot papers are being produced for the November 11 parliamentary election this year, with half of the printing already completed in the United Arab Emirates under strict security standards.
The commission said 22,046,200 papers are allocated for general voters and 1,509,300 for special voting, with additional reserve papers to meet operational needs.
The ballots are being produced with multiple security features, including hidden security marks, specialized inks visible only through devices and tests, anti-counterfeit properties, and specially manufactured paper that contains markings similar to those used in banknotes along with additional secret identifiers to protect the integrity of the vote.
Spokesperson Jumana Al-Ghalai confirmed the measures, saying the commission is committed to ensuring the safety and credibility of the electoral process.
On Sept. 17, 2025, Iraq’s Independent High Electoral Commission said it is ready to hold the Nov. 11 parliamentary elections and will introduce measures against extremist rhetoric, including monitoring campaigns and social media, strengthening legal action against hate speech, and coordinating with security forces to protect polling centers, voters, and candidates.
