Ruling Shia Coordination Framework calls for secure election climate, faster legislative action

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Coordination Framework on Monday urged authorities to ensure a secure environment for the upcoming parliamentary elections and called on lawmakers to accelerate the passage of key legislation affecting public welfare and state stability.

In a statement issued after a meeting of senior coalition figures, the Shia-led political alliance said participants “stressed the importance of ensuring a secure and conducive electoral environment, strengthening electoral security, and safeguarding procedures to build public trust.”

The bloc emphasized that broad and active voter participation would help “reflect the free will of the people” and reinforce Iraq’s democratic process.

The Coordination Framework held its regular meeting today at the office of Dr. Haider al-Abadi, with the presence of the Prime Minister. The meeting was dedicated to discussing recent political and security developments, along with several key national files.

Participants reviewed regional and international challenges surrounding Iraq and their potential impact on the country’s security, stability, and political trajectory. They emphasized the need to unify the national stance in addressing these challenges and to safeguard Iraq’s decision-making in a way that serves the country’s higher interests.

The meeting also addressed the upcoming elections. Attendees stressed the importance of ensuring a secure and conducive electoral environment, strengthening electoral security, and safeguarding procedures to build public trust and encourage broad and active participation that reflects the free will of the people and reinforces the country’s democratic path.

In the same context, the participants underscored the urgency of passing a series of key laws in the Council of Representatives—particularly those affecting citizens’ interests and state stability—which have a direct bearing on Iraq’s present and future.
