Five arrested for impersonating aid workers, soliciting fake donations
BAGHDAD — Police in Baghdad’s Al-Shu’ala area arrested five people on Saturday accused of impersonating members of a humanitarian organization and collecting donations from residents under false pretenses.
In a statement, the Karkh Police Command said the suspects were apprehended “in coordination with the local ground security force” while actively posing as representatives of a charitable organization.
The arrests came after reports from residents alerted authorities to individuals soliciting money while falsely claiming affiliation with an NGO.
The suspects were transferred to a local police station.
