One dead, two injured in early morning crash in Sharazur

SULAYMANIYAH — A 20-year-old man was killed and two teenagers seriously injured early Thursday when a car overturned in Qalbaza village, part of Sulaymaniyah’s Sharazur district, according to local health officials.

Ghazi Ali, a staff member at Shahid Raouf Beg Hospital in Sharazur, told 964media the incident occurred at around 5 a.m. when a Toyota Camry flipped over. The driver, a Sharazur resident who had recently returned from Europe, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was transferred to the forensic medicine department in Sulaymaniyah.

The two passengers, both 17 years old, sustained serious injuries. According to Ali, the three were on their way to work together when the crash occurred.

The fatal accident comes amid renewed road safety efforts by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Interior Ministry. Earlier this week, residents across the region, including in neighboring Halabja, participated in the “Drive Slowly” campaign, which aims to promote safer driving habits and reduce traffic-related fatalities.
