SULAYMANIYAH — A 27-year-old construction worker died Sunday evening after falling while working on the Mayorca City residential project in Sulaymaniyah, local officials reported.
The worker, a resident of Hajitan village in the Piramagrun district, lost his life during the accident. Saman Nader, head of Sulaymaniyah Emergency Services, told 964media that the man was transported to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries. “The emergency team transferred the body to Sulaymaniyah Forensic Medicine,” Nader said.
The deceased was later handed over to his family, who returned the body to their hometown. Authorities have not provided additional details about the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.
From January 2024 through August, the Kurdistan Construction Workers’ Organization reported the deaths of 17 workers in Sulaymaniyah, nine in Erbil, and eight in Garmiyan. The organization attributed these fatalities to inadequate safety standards, lack of protective equipment, and insufficient training. Common causes of these accidents included electrocution, building collapses, falls, machinery accidents, and severe bleeding.
