Thunderstorms in parts of Iraq as Basra reaches 42°C
BAGHDAD — Scattered light to moderate thunderstorms are forecast in some areas on Sunday as unsettled weather moves in from western Iraq, with cloud building at times over the center and north, while the south stays mostly clear and Basra and Dhi Qar reach 42°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.
Temperatures will be close to Saturday’s, warm to hot during the day and cooler at night.
Baghdad is expected at 37°C with a low of 22°C. Erbil is forecast at 32°C with a low of 14°C, Sulaymaniyah 27°C with a low of 13°C, and Duhok 30°C with a low of 14°C.
Nineveh is expected at 30°C, Kirkuk 33°C, Anbar and Salah al-Din 35°C, Diyala 36°C, Najaf and Babil 37°C, Karbala, Diwaniyah and Wasit 38°C, Muthanna 40°C, Maysan 41°C, and Basra and Dhi Qar 42°C.
Winds will be light to moderate at 10 to 20 km/h, with calm periods in some areas. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 4 to 6 km in rain and thunderstorms.
