'Owners intended to alter expiration date'
Four tons of expired women’s cosmetics seized by Duhok security
DUHOK — Security forces in Duhok seized four tons of expired women’s cosmetic products in two separate raids across different neighborhoods of the city on Tuesday, according to a source from the General Directorate of Security in Duhok.
The source told 964media that, “The owners of these products intended to alter the expiration dates and resell them in local markets.”
Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the individuals involved will face penalties in accordance with the law, the directorate vows.
The source added that markets selling women’s cosmetics have been inspected over the past few days to ensure no similar expired products remain on store shelves.
The incident is part of ongoing efforts to crack down on expired items. Authorities in Zakho, Duhok, confiscated and destroyed more than 600 tons of expired food and cosmetic products during inspections conducted in 2024.
In mid-December 2024, Zakho authorities announced the closure of four unlicensed cosmetic surgery centers, with the Zakho District Committee stating that the owners of these centers would face legal action.
In Erbil, 159 tons of expired food products were confiscated and scientifically disposed of in 2024, according to Erbil Qaymaqam Nabaz Abdulhamid .
