Zakho authorities crack down on expired goods, illegal utilities, and medical violations
ZAKHO — Authorities in Zakho, Duhok governorate, confiscated and destroyed more than 600 tons of expired food and cosmetic products during inspections conducted in 2024, according to a data released on Tuesday by the Zakho mayoralty.
The inspection committees, which include representatives from the health, trade, and security sectors, also reported the seizure of 1,500 kilograms of smuggled medicine in 2024.
Additionally, 53 medical clinics and pharmacies were fined, and seven unauthorized cosmetic surgery centers were shut down. Six dentists were also penalized for failing to comply with health regulations.
Authorities also dismantled 579 illegal electricity connections and 1,269 unauthorized water lines. Last year, 390 store and market owners were fined for non-compliance with regulations.
Mohammed Sadiq, Director of Public Relations at Zakho district administration, told 964media that only 2% of the confiscated goods were submitted to them by their owners after proper verification. The majority of the seized products were directly seized of by the committees.
Kovan Avdel, head of Zakho Trade Inspection, told 964media, “Next year, we have a more comprehensive plan to control violations and ensure full monitoring of all commercial areas.”
