Member of Presidential Guard
Staffer at Iraqi presidency suspended over allegations of misconduct
BAGHDAD — A staff member of the Iraqi Presidential Guard has been suspended following allegations of misconduct, according to a statement released by the Iraqi Presidency on Tuesday. The individual is accused of misusing his position to engage in extortion, falsely claiming the ability to influence official decisions and exploiting the names of high-ranking officials within the institution for personal gain.
The presidency clarified that the actions of the staff member were “entirely personal and unauthorized,” stressing that he held no actual authority to impact decision-making processes.
President Abdul Latif Rashid, upon learning of the matter, ordered the immediate suspension of the individual and launched a formal investigation, the statement says. “The President has directed that all necessary legal measures be taken to address the issue and hold accountable anyone who misuses their position or damages the reputation of the Presidency,” the statement said.
