Advisor to PM: ‘Iraq is making moves to avoid escalation of conflict in the region’
BAGHDAD — Fadi Al-Shammari, the political advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, stated that Iraqi diplomatic efforts are ongoing in their attempt to exert pressure to end Israeli “aggression.”
He said these efforts may later include ‘foreign tours’ to rally Arab, Islamic, and international support to implement international resolutions aimed at ending the conflict.
On Sunday evening, Al-Sudani warned of severe regional and international outcomes to ongoing tensions in the Middle East. Addressing US President and the European Union, he stated, “we are on the brink of a perilous situation that could plunge the region and the world into prolonged conflicts, disrupt the global economy, and severely hinder development.”
Al-Shammari’s statement to Al-Sabah Newspaper:
Iraq is making several moves to avoid an escalation of conflict in the region, especially amid the worsening crises in Gaza and Lebanon. Iraq strongly condemns the brutal attacks by the entity on Gaza and Lebanon, which target civilians and destroy infrastructure.
Iraq is working to rally Arab, Islamic, and international support to stop these blatant violations. It also expresses its strong support for the Palestinian and Lebanese people in their legitimate struggle for their rights, and always calls for the need to strengthen Arab and Islamic unity to face these challenges. It emphasizes the importance of resisting Zionist pressures and working to restore its sovereignty and security.
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani has held a series of talks with regional and world leaders, discussing the dimensions of the expanding conflict and its devastating effects on the region and its danger to global peace—particularly in the Middle East, the source of energy supplies to the world—amidst disruptions and wars in other parts of the world [referring to the Russian-Ukrainian war.]
Iraq has also worked to rally support for the Palestinian cause and what is happening in Lebanon, as well as the ongoing escalation by the Zionist entity. This rallying may include government visits to Arab and Islamic countries or meetings at the level of international organizations such as the United Nations or the Arab League.”
Al-Sudani’s speech at the United Nations was clear and unambiguous regarding the Zionist entity’s violations of human rights in Gaza and Lebanon and the need for international intervention to stop the Zionist killing machine.
Iraq, through its active diplomacy, seeks to be a strong voice for justice, supporting Arab and Islamic causes in all international forums. It works to achieve political solutions that ensure security and stability for both Palestine and Lebanon, and it supports the struggle of the two peoples against occupation and aggression.
