Suli Dawzhan waterfall becomes tourist attraction in Sulaymaniyah

SULAYMANIYAH – Suli Dawzhan Waterfall, located in the Pshdar area near the town of Isewa in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, is drawing tourists seeking a summer escape. With water cascading from approximately 50 meters, the waterfall offers temperatures below 20 degrees Celsius, providing a refreshing retreat for visitors.

Jalal Mohammed, a visitor, told 964media, “This is my first time visiting Suli Dawzhan. It’s an eye-catching and serene place.” Nestled between two mountains, the area remains cool, prompting Mohammed to advise, “One might need to wear winter clothes even in summer to stay warm at night.”

Sirwan Hussein, another tourist, noted the stark contrast to urban environments. “The weather is significantly different from the city, providing a natural and relaxing environment,” he said.

Tourists have raised concerns about the accessibility and lack of facilities such as electricity, toilets, and garbage bins. They urge authorities to improve amenities to enhance the visitor experience and attract more tourists. Visitors complain that access roads are in a poor state.

Muzaffar Ahmed, the director of the Isewa sub-district, responded to the concerns. “Suli Dawzhan is an important tourist destination,” he told 964media. “We plan to develop it into a comprehensive tourist area with full services.” He added that the Directorate of Raparin Water Resources has conducted studies and found the area suitable for both agricultural and tourism purposes, boosting its appeal.
