Several arrested in connection with death of young boxer in Baghdad
BAGHDAD – Baghdad’s Anti-Crime Directorate announced on Friday the arrest of several suspected to be involved in the fatal shooting of young Iraqi boxer Ali Mulakm, who was killed over four months ago in the Adhamiyah district.
According to the Directorate’s statement, the incident stemmed from a confrontation between the victim and a group of individuals identified as drug addicts. “During the altercation, one of the individuals pulled out a firearm and shot Ali twice. The assailant then returned and fired additional rounds, resulting in his death,” the statement explained.
After several days of investigation and the review of surveillance footage, authorities were able to identify and apprehend the suspects. “They have been arrested and are now in custody, awaiting justice,” the Directorate confirmed.
Ali Mulakm was shot late at night on May 20 in Adhamiyah, with one of the bullets fatally striking him in the head.
