Crash in Kalar kills four students as school minibus overturns

KALAR — A crash on the Kalar-Kifri highway in Sulaymaniyah governorate Tuesday killed four students and injured six others, officials said.

The crash involved a minibus carrying female students from Bakur Secondary School who were returning from a school trip in the neighboring district of Kifri.

“The minibus was on its way back to Kalar when the accident happened,” said Saman Ali, a spokesperson for Garmiyan Traffic. He noted that the minibus overturned while trying to avoid a collision with another vehicle.

Ali added that five of the injured students are in stable condition, but one severely injured student was transferred to Sulaymaniyah for further medical treatment.

In the first nine months of last year, Sulaymaniyah reported 791 traffic accidents resulting in 116 deaths and 2,924 injuries.
