Basra criminal court sentences 12 individuals for oil smuggling
BASRA, August 27 — Basra Criminal Court issued 12 sentences on Sunday against individuals involved in oil derivatives smuggling, sentencing them to 15 years in prison for the charge of oil smuggling.
The Supreme Judicial Council’s media announced in a statement received by Network 964:
“The twelve criminals engaged in smuggling crude oil by puncturing and damaging an oil pipeline, loading it into tankers, and smuggling it with forged permits to the Kurdistan Region and from there out of Iraq.
The issued sentences are based on the provisions of Article 4/1 of Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005, and by reference to Article 6/1 of the Oil and Its Derivatives Smuggling Law No. 41 of 2008.”
