After unauthorized removal of trees

Raparin environment directorate files complaint against internet company

RAPARIN – The Raparin Environment Directorate has filed a formal complaint against an internet company for unauthorized tree removal in eastern Sulaymaniyah province.

According to the directorate, the company chopped down 27 trees without consulting local environmental authorities.

Previously, the directorate had planted about 100 trees in a designated section of the Ranya Darband area, situated approximately 80km east of Sulaymaniyah, near the border with Iran.

However, the internet company uprooted 27 of these trees to facilitate the installation of its underground internet cables.

Mohammed Karim, the director of the Raparin Environment Directorate, expressed frustration, stating, “We have summoned company representatives to clarify when and how those cables were installed there, but have yet to receive a response.”

He told 964media that the company proceeded with tree removal without obtaining any necessary permissions or informing the authorities, prompting the filing of the complaint.

Karim further stated that in response to their complaint, representatives of the internet company will be required to appear in court in the coming days.
