Iraqi poet Reem Qais Kubba recites her poetry after two decades of exile in Baghdad

BAGHDAD – The Nakheel Organization For Culture hosted an evening with the renowned Iraqi poet Reem Qais Kubbah in Baghdad. Introduced by poet Mudar Al-Alousi, Kubba read a selection of her poems to a packed audience of poets and cultural elites.

According to a statement from the Nakheel Iraqi Organization, Reem Qais Kubba (born 1967 in Baghdad) is a distinguished Iraqi poet with a degree in Translation from Al-Mustansiriyah University, graduated in 1989. She worked as a translator at the Al-Ma’moon Translation and Publishing House in Baghdad and is a member of the Iraqi Writers Union and the Young Writers Forum.

Kubba’s poetry and translations have been published in numerous Arab and Iraqi newspapers and magazines, and she has several poetry collections to her name, including “Seagulls Commit Flying” and “I Close My Wings and Steal Writing,” among others.

Leaving Iraq in 2005 for Damascus, then Cairo, before finally settling in London, Kubba’s event marked her first poetry evening in two decades, organized by Nakheel, a cultural foundation registered with the NGO Directorate.
