Still far below full capacity
Duhok dam water levels increase
DUHOK — Despite an increase of 10 million cubic meters of water this year, boosting the total to 28 million cubic meters, the Duhok Dam remains nearly half below capacity.
Farhad Mohammed, director of Duhok Dam, informed 964media, “Although last year the dam contained 18 million cubic meters of water, this year’s figure has risen to 28 million cubic meters, marking an increase of 5.8 meters over the previous year.”
To reach full capacity, the Duhok Dam needs to gather 52 million cubic meters of water. While reaching this milestone this year poses a challenge, Director Mohammed mentioned that continued rainfall could potentially make it achievable.
The dam last reached its maximum capacity in 2019 and has not done so again since.
Although the Duhok Dam does not contribute to the production of hydroelectric power like the Dukan and Darbandikhan Dams, it is essential for supplying drinking water, supporting agriculture, and sustaining green spaces and parks in the Duhok region.
The Duhok Dam is the third-largest dam in the Kurdistan Region.
