Parliamentary committee denies summoning Iraqi Media Network head

BAGHDAD, January 28 – The Committee on Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, and Media in the Iraqi Parliament clarified on Sunday that it had not issued a request to interrogate the head of the Iraqi Media Network, Nabil Jasim. Instead, the request was submitted by MP Raed Al-Maliki.

In a statement received, the Parliament’s media department announced:

The Committee on Culture, Tourism, Antiquities, and Media in the Iraqi Parliament declares that it has not made any statements regarding the interrogation of the head of the Iraqi Media Network. The interrogation request was presented by MP Raed Al-Maliki, not by the committee. Some media outlets incorrectly reported that the committee had scheduled the interrogation for Tuesday. We urge media outlets to verify information before publishing it. Therefore, this clarification is deemed necessary.
