Erbil reports threefold increase in annual rainfall

ERBIL, January 25 — The Erbil Agriculture Department has unveiled rainfall statistics for 2024, revealing a significant surge in precipitation compared to the previous year.

In a statement, the Erbil Agriculture Directorate highlighted that Balisan and Shaqlawa districts have recorded the highest rainfall so far this year.

Balisan witnessed an increase from 228.4 mm of rain last year to 642 mm this year. Similarly, Shaqlawa recorded 596.5 mm this year, marking a substantial rise from 169.8 mm the preceding year.

Overall, annual rainfall in Erbil surged from 74.3 mm last year to 205.3 mm this year, marking a threefold increase.

This rise in rainfall coincides with a period of snowfall and precipitation across various parts of the Kurdistan Region in recent days.
