Young man from Kirkuk presumed drowned in River Tigris remains missing

KIRKUK — A young man is missing and presumed drowned in the Tigris River in Kirkuk’s Zab sub-district on Wednesday evening. His body has not yet been recovered. The family is calling for assistance from rescue teams.

Adnan Najm Sabawi, the uncle of the missing youth, told 964media that his 18-year-old nephew, a resident of Shariya village in the Zab sub-district, was a skilled swimmer. However, due to the cold and turbulent water, he was unable to surface and is presumed drowned.

“We urge the rescue teams and the river police to act swiftly to locate and retrieve his body,” Sabawi said.

Within the past two weeks, five people have drowned in Kirkuk. Among the victims were two women, one of whose bodies remains missing, along with the body of the young man from Shariya village.
