Sulaymaniyah launches fixed speed cameras to monitor traffic

SULAYMANIYAH, January 19 – The Sulaymaniyah Traffic Directorate has installed fixed cameras within the city and is set to begin monitoring vehicle speeds on January 23.

Head of the traffic directorate Aso Mohammed clarified that the speed cameras will operate on a one-point system, omitting the utilization of a point-to-point system.

Of the 32 fixed cameras in Sulaymaniyah, six are currently non-operational. Among them, three are positioned along Malik Mahmoud Street, while another three are situated on the Sulaymaniyah-Tasluja Road. Operational cameras are located on the Khasraw Sal Bridge and Mamostayan Street, with a significant number along the route from Sulaymaniyah to Tasluja.

Speed violations will vary based on camera locations. Within the city center, vehicles may not exceed 60 kilometers, while outside the city, the threshold is set at 80 kilometers per hour.
