Authorities issue public notice

Bird flu outbreak suspected among gulls found dead at Dukan Lake

DUKAN — The High Security Committee of Raparin has restricted public and media access to islands in Dukan Lake following initial tests suggesting a bird flu outbreak among the area’s gull population, a health source from the Raparin Administration confirmed.

The restrictions are an attempt to control the spread of the disease and facilitate ongoing investigations, the source said, indicating that initial tests pointed toward avian influenza among the gulls, raising concerns about a potential large-scale die-off.

Mohsin Abdullah, Director of the Raparin Veterinary Department, told 964media the deaths have so far been limited to gulls, with no other bird species affected. Final test results are expected within the coming days, but the Raparin health source indicated a strong likelihood that bird flu is the culprit.

The Raparin Forest and Environment Police Directorate has also issued a public notice urging people and media outlets to avoid visiting the islands until the final results are available.

Dukan Lake and its islands are a popular habitat for gulls, particularly during the hatching season. The suspected bird flu outbreak poses an environmental threat and raises concerns for future gull populations. Authorities have implemented immediate segregation measures to protect healthy wildlife.
