Two electricity workers killed, one injured in separate incidents
DUHOK/ERBIL — Two electricity workers were killed and another injured in separate electrocution incidents Wednesday in the governorates of Duhok and Erbil, according to local health officials.
In the first incident, two workers were struck by a high-voltage current while working on power infrastructure in the Bajil subdistrict of Akre district, part of Duhok governorate. One of the workers, identified by initials S.K., age 40, died at the scene. The second, age 50, was injured and remains under medical observation.
Nechirvan Fakhreddin, spokesperson for the Akre District Health Directorate, confirmed the incident to 964media.
“The body of the deceased worker is at the Akre Forensic Medicine Department and will undergo examination. The injured worker is under observation at Akre Emergency Hospital,” he said.
In a separate incident in the town center of Harir, in Erbil governorate, a 35-year-old electrician died after being electrocuted while working to restore power at a residence.
Mohammed Amokayi, spokesperson for the Shaqlawa Health Directorate, told 964media, “This afternoon, a body was brought to Harir Emergency Hospital. He died due to electric shock. We tried everything to revive him, but there was nothing we could do. The electric current had caused severe trauma to his body.”
Amokayi said the victim was a resident of Harir district and had one child. His body was transferred to the Erbil Forensic Medicine Department for examination.
