Security officer killed in altercation with professor at Tikrit University
SALAH AL-DIN — A university security officer has died following a confrontation with a professor on the campus of Tikrit University, according to a security source who spoke to 964media.
The incident began when campus security received a report about a tinted passenger car parked in a secluded area of the university. Officers approached the vehicle to investigate, suspecting improper conduct.
“When our personnel asked the driver for identification, he refused to comply and became aggressive,” the source said. “He was engaged in inappropriate behavior inside the vehicle with one of his students.”
According to the source, the professor pulled out a knife and injured one of the officers on the hand before attempting to flee in his vehicle. “During the escape, he ran over one of the guards,” the source said.
The injured officer was taken to a hospital with a skull fracture and later died from his injuries.
Authorities have opened an investigation into the incident. The identity of the professor has not been released.
