A place for history and good food

New restaurant displays Sinjar’s cultural heritage

SINJAR, January, 18 — Azad Adani, a Yazidi man from the village of Rambusi in Sinjar district, has embarked on establishing a traditional restaurant and cafeteria with touches of the area’s ancient heritage.

Serving both popular and fast food, the establishment also features a portrait of Sinjar-native and Nobel Prize winner Nadia Murad.

Adani said he funded the project on his own and expressed his lifelong passion for preserving heritage items from Sinjar and establishing his own restaurant.

Reflecting on his efforts, Adani told 964media, “Before the ravages of  ISIS in 2014, I gathered around 100 heritage pieces, but most were destroyed during their control of the city. A few survived, finding a place in my current project.”

Offering a menu featuring a variety of popular dishes and fast food, Adani has also dedicated a space for youth to enjoy hookah, surrounded by books on history and culture.

Adani said he is committed to preserving Sinjar’s heritage and explained his motivation for displaying artifacts, saying he hopes customers will contribute to the collection.
