Erbil to host a conference on renowned Kurdish translator’s legacy
ERBIL, January 9 – Salahaddin University is set to host a conference in May this year, focusing on the life, work, and impact of Aziz Gardi, a revered figure in Kurdish translation. The conference aims to explore Gardi’s significant contributions in various fields, particularly education and language.
Aziz Gardi, who started his career as a primary school teacher before advancing to a university role, played a crucial role in shaping educational programs in the region. The conference will provide an in-depth look at his journey and the enduring influence he had on Kurdish education.
A significant aspect of the conference is the examination of Kurdish translators’ role in linguistic preservation and enrichment, with a special emphasis on Gardi’s dedication and contributions to the Kurdish language.
The organizing committee has announced that the conference will cover multiple facets of Gardi’s thoughts and work, including education, translation, literary research, language, and academia. Researchers are invited to submit papers in Kurdish, Arabic, Persian, or English by April 1, 2024.
Born in 1947 in Bahrka, Erbil, Aziz Gardi was a prolific translator, credited with translating approximately 200 books. His passing in June 2022 in Erbil was a significant loss to the field.
