Man electrocuted while helping neighbor repair water pipe

SULAYMANIYAH — A man was electrocuted Wednesday evening in Sulaymaniyah’s Kanakawa neighborhood while helping a neighbor repair a broken water pipe.

The victim was identified as N.G., 35, a Kanakawa resident originally from the village of Timar in the Surdash subdistrict.

Tahir Kalabashi, the victim’s uncle, told 964media that his nephew had responded to a neighbor’s request for help repairing the pipe.

“While they were working, a pedestrian greeted them. As my nephew raised his hand to return the greeting, he accidentally touched an exposed electrical wire and collapsed,” Kalabashi said. “He died instantly.”

The accident occurred at an elevated location, complicating rescue efforts. Emergency responders recovered the body, which was later returned to his family.

N.G. was buried in the Piramagrun cemetery.
