Education Ministry announces requirements for study at gifted and talented schools
BAGHDAD, July 24 — Baghdad’s Ministry of Education announced on Monday that students wanting to enter schools for the gifted and talented must score 95% on their entrance exams.
Applications opened Monday and will continue until August 6.
The Ministry issued a statement that read:
“The General Directorate of General, Private, and Foreign Education in the Ministry of Education has issued instructions and regulations for accepting students with a 95% average in distinguished schools.
The electronic application process commences on Monday, July 24, 2023, and continues until Sunday, August 6, 2023. Students must fill out the electronic application form and then submit it manually [by hand] to the concerned school administration after entering the required information. The school administration will then forward the applications to the General Directorate of Examinations and Evaluation.
To be eligible to remain in the distinguished schools, students must maintain an 80% average for the academic year 2023 – 2024.
Students are not allowed to apply simultaneously to both distinguished schools and Baghdad College Secondary Schools.
To qualify, students must pass the Ministry’s proficiency test (comprehensive exam) in the subjects of Arabic, English, Mathematics, and Science studied in the sixth grade during the academic year 2022 – 2023.
The proficiency test will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at 9:00 AM in the same school where the student applied.
Regarding the French language subject in the curricula of distinguished schools, it is optional depending on the availability of teaching staff. Note that these schools are for the scientific branch only.”
