Officials discuss customs policies

KRG delegation engages in talks with Baghdad officials

ERBIL, December 11 — A high-profile delegation from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), led by Interior Minister Rebar Ahmad and Finance and Economy Minister Awat Sheikh Janab, has engaged in discussions with Iraqi officials, led by Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Tamimi, in Baghdad.

The primary focus of these discussions is to finalize the customs policy between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad — another key question is the amendment of the law regarding border gates.

According to a readout of the meeting, the Ministry of Finance underscored the delegation’s commitment to resolving existing issues and fostering collaboration between the two sides. This diplomatic effort follows the decision by the Iraqi Council of Ministers on November 21, 2023, to establish a joint committee aimed at addressing customs-related issues between the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad.
