Duhok at 35°C as six governorates stay below 40, while Basra holds at 47°C

BAGHDAD — Six governorates are forecast below 40°C on Thursday as temperatures ease slightly in the centre and north, while Basra stays at 47°C, the Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology said.

Duhok is expected at 35°C, Erbil and Sulaymaniyah 37°C, Nineveh and Anbar 38°C and Kirkuk 39°C. Baghdad, Babil and Karbala are forecast at 42°C, Najaf 43°C, Wasit and Diwaniyah 44°C, Muthanna 45°C, Maysan and Dhi Qar 46°C and Basra 47°C.

Skies will be generally clear with scattered cloud, turning partly cloudy overnight in parts of the centre and south. Northwesterly winds are forecast at 20 to 30 km/h, strengthening at times in the east of the centre and south with gusts to about 45 km/h and light dust, particularly in desert areas. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km where dust is blowing. Mostly clear conditions continue through the weekend with little change.
