Seven governorates below 40°C as Basra falls to 44°C
BAGHDAD — Seven governorates are forecast below 40°C on Tuesday, with Duhok the coolest at 34°C, while Basra and Dhi Qar reach 44°C.
Sulaymaniyah is expected at 35°C, Erbil 36°C, Kirkuk 38°C, and Nineveh, Anbar and Diyala 39°C. Baghdad and Salah al-Din are forecast at 40°C, Karbala and Babil 41°C, Wasit, Diwaniyah and Muthanna at 42°C or above, and Najaf and Maysan 43°C.
Skies will be clear across most of the country with cloud in the north. Temperatures hold at Monday’s levels in the centre and south and rise slightly in the north. Northwesterly winds are forecast at 10 to 20 km/h, strengthening to 40 km/h in parts of the south and possibly raising light dust in desert areas, with calm periods in the north and the west of the centre. Visibility will be 8 to 10 km, falling to 5 to 7 km at night in haze. Basra and Dhi Qar are expected to rise to 45°C on Wednesday.
