Iraq offers condolences after Syria highway crash kills 35

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Foreign Ministry on Sunday offered condolences to Syria after a collision between two passenger buses on the Deir ez-Zor-Damascus highway killed 35 people and injured 30 others.

The crash occurred Saturday between al-Sukhnah and Palmyra, prompting Syrian authorities to deploy ambulances and Civil Defense teams from Palmyra and Deir ez-Zor.

Syria’s Defense Ministry also sent helicopters to evacuate casualties to Homs Military Hospital. The latest official toll reported Sunday remained 35 dead and 30 injured.

Iraq’s Foreign Ministry expressed condolences to the Syrian government, the Syrian people and the families of those killed, while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
