Access eased Baghdad
Sudani orders reopening of Green Zone entrances to public traffic
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani on Monday ordered the reopening of entrances to Baghdad’s Green Zone to public traffic starting at 6 p.m., according to an official statement.
The prime minister’s office said, “The prime minister directed the opening of the entrances to the Green Zone to the movement of citizens, starting from 6 p.m. today, Monday.”
The Green Zone, located in central Baghdad, houses key government institutions, including parliament and the prime minister’s office, as well as foreign diplomatic missions. Established after 2003 as a secured area, it has long been subject to strict access controls and limited entry points.
Authorities have eased restrictions in recent years, allowing partial access to the area under regulated conditions. The latest directive expands public movement through its entrances during evening hours.
