Dust and rising temperatures forecast across Iraq through Tuesday

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority has forecast dusty conditions and rising temperatures across much of the country through Tuesday, with daytime highs reaching 45°C in parts of the south.

Saturday will be clear in central and southern Iraq and mostly clear with some cloud in the north. Light to moderate northwesterly winds will strengthen to as much as 40 km/h in parts of the central and southern regions, raising dust. Forecast highs Saturday: Baghdad, Salah al-Din, Karbala and Babil 43°C; Diyala and Anbar 42°C; Wasit, Najaf and Diwaniyah 44°C; Maysan, Dhi Qar, Basra and Muthanna 45°C; Nineveh and Kirkuk 40°C; Erbil 39°C; Duhok and Sulaymaniyah 37°C.

Sunday will be sunny nationwide with temperatures rising across the country. Sunny conditions continue Monday, with northwesterly winds strengthening to around 40 km/h and raising dust in parts of central and southern Iraq as temperatures climb further. Tuesday will also be sunny, with winds raising dust in the south, temperatures holding in the north and south and edging up in the center.
