Kataib Hezbollah backs Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood after US terrorist designation
BAGHDAD — Kataib Hezbollah Secretary-General Abu Hussein al-Hamidawi said Tuesday his group stands with the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood following the U.S. designation of the organization as a terrorist group, calling the designation “a source of pride for them and clear evidence of the correctness of their principles and practical orientations.”
Al-Hamidawi said Kataib Hezbollah considers it “a religious and moral responsibility” to support the group. “We see it as our obligation to share the available resources with them… The Muslim Brotherhood are our brothers,” he said, adding that he prays for their “steadfastness on their path of resistance.”
The U.S. State Department designated the Sudanese Muslim Brotherhood as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist on Monday and announced its intent to designate the group as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, effective March 16. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the group was designated “for mass executions of civilians,” adding: “We will continue to use all available tools to deprive the Iranian regime and Muslim Brotherhood chapters of the resources they need to engage in or support terrorism.”
