Drone crashes near Erbil-Pirmam Road in day’s fourth attack
ERBIL — A drone crashed Monday night near the Erbil-Pirmam Road, with video showing flames at the moment of impact followed by smoke rising from the site, a 964media correspondent reported. No casualties were reported.
Coalition forces intercepted and shot down three explosive-laden drones over Erbil at 10:24 p.m., the Kurdistan Region’s Counter Terrorism Directorate said. Debris from one of the downed drones fell near the UAE Consulate, with no casualties reported.
It was the fourth drone to fall across Erbil on Monday alone, with three others coming down in different areas of the city earlier in the day.
The incidents add to a toll of at least 196 drone, missile and rocket attacks that have struck the Kurdistan Region since the war began Feb. 28, killing four people and injuring 19 others, according to a monitoring report by Community Peacemaker Teams – Iraqi Kurdistan. Of those attacks, 162 struck Erbil governorate — more than 82 percent of the total — hitting the U.S. Consulate, military bases, Iranian Kurdish opposition headquarters, Erbil International Airport, oil fields, hotels, residential areas, telecommunications towers and Peshmerga sites.
