Iraq, US envoy to Syria discuss regional ‘preventing further escalation’
BAGHDAD – Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Sunday with Tom Barrack, the U.S. president’s special envoy for Syria.
According to the Prime Minister’s Media Office, the meeting included an exchange of views on steps to prevent further escalation in the region and to advance diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving disputes and fostering cooperation and economic growth.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received today, Sunday, the Special Envoy to the President of the United States for Syria, Ambassador Tom Barrack, to discuss practical avenues through which Iraq can continue supporting Syria’s stability, security, prosperity, and economic revival in ways that also reinforce Iraq’s own stability and prosperity.
The two sides also exchanged views on preventing further escalation in the region and advancing a diplomatic path to resolve disputes, placing the region on a trajectory of cooperation, economic growth, and long-term stability. The United States underscored the constructive and essential role Iraq can play in achieving these shared objectives.
