Policeman killed, three injured Maysan shooting
MAYSAN — A member of the Federal Police was killed and three others, including a civilian, were injured Monday after a man opened fire randomly inside his home in Amarah, according to the Maysan Police Directorate.
In a statement, the directorate said the gunman “opened fire with a weapon inside his home in a random manner, causing panic among residents in the area.”
Security forces surrounded the house and used loudspeakers to urge the shooter to stop and surrender “to prevent further bloodshed,” the statement said. When the gunman continued firing, three Federal Police officers were hit, one of whom later died from his wounds. A passerby was also injured.
Police said forces then stormed the home, ending the standoff after a brief exchange of fire. The gunman was found dead inside, and his weapon was seized.
Authorities have opened an investigation to determine the circumstances of the shooting. The Maysan Police Directorate reaffirmed its “commitment to protecting citizens’ lives and property and dealing firmly with any actions that threaten public safety,” urging residents to report any suspicious behavior immediately.
