Police arrest suspected motorcycle theft gang in Karkh
BAGHDAD — Karkh police announced Saturday the arrest of a gang specializing in motorcycle theft after carrying out several operations across the capital.
Police released surveillance footage showing the thefts and the moment the suspects were apprehended.
In a statement, the force said the gang was caught by Karkh Criminal Investigation Unit officers.
Motorcycle thefts are common across the country. Basra Police announced in April the arrest of a gang accused of committing more than 25 motorcycle thefts across the governorate, with firearms and stolen vehicles found in their possession.
Also in April, police in Baghdad’s Al-Rusafa arrested three suspects in connection with motorcycle thefts in the Al-Zuhur neighborhood. The operation followed a report from a citizen whose motorcycle had been stolen by unidentified individuals who fled the scene.
