Al-Sudani warns of Gaza conflict spillover in talks with UN envoy

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani warned of attempts to expand the war in Gaza to other Arab and Islamic countries, according to a statement from his office following a meeting Saturday with Mohamed Al Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq.

The discussions also covered restrictions on humanitarian aid reaching Gaza and the resulting risks to regional and international security. The statement pointed to recent tensions involving Qatar as an example of how the conflict could spread.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met today, Saturday, with the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Mr. Mohamed Al Hassan.

The meeting reviewed bilateral cooperation between Iraq and the United Nations, particularly in programs related to the economy, development, climate, and the environment, in light of the agreement to conclude UNAMI’s mission at the end of this year.

The discussions also addressed the latest developments in the region, including the consequences of the ongoing aggression on Gaza, the prevention of humanitarian aid from reaching the Gaza Strip, and the resulting threats to regional and international security due to the Zionist entity’s attempts to expand the war and target Arab and Islamic countries, most recently the brotherly State of Qatar.

The Prime Minister stressed the need for the international community to shoulder its responsibilities in supporting regional stability and preventing further wars and crises. He highlighted the importance of strengthening communication and dialogue, both regionally and internationally, to find solutions to disputes and conflicts.
