Shooting at Basra wedding leaves four injured
BASRA — Four people were injured in a shooting during a wedding in the Al-Salam neighborhood, known locally as Al-Shakhata, in Hartha north of Basra, a security source said.
The source told 964media the wounded were taken to Al-Fayha Hospital for treatment and later filed official complaints against the two sides involved in the fight. Both parties fled the scene after the incident.
Preliminary investigations suggest the violence stemmed from a longstanding tribal dispute between two families, the source said. One of those involved is a resident of the Abul-Khasib district.
Tribal disputes in Iraq often escalate into violence, with conflicts spanning generations and undermining state authority. Such clashes continue to challenge security forces attempting to enforce the rule of law.
Authorities said legal procedures have been launched and that efforts are underway to locate the suspects.
