Scattered thunderstorms expected over Kurdistan mountains

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s General Authority for Meteorology forecast mostly clear and sunny summer weather across much of the country on Monday, with a chance of light thundery rain showers over mountainous areas in the Kurdistan Region.

According to a report from the authority’s forecasting department, weather conditions will remain clear and sunny in central and southern Iraq, while northern areas will see scattered clouds and a chance of light thunderstorms over the highlands of Erbil and Duhok.

The report said temperatures will decrease by a few degrees in northern and southern regions, while remaining stable in central Iraq.

Northwesterly winds are expected to be light to moderate, becoming more active during daytime hours in eastern parts of central and southern Iraq, causing light dust to rise.

The authority said weather conditions are expected to remain generally clear over the coming days, with temperatures gradually increasing across the country and daytime wind activity continuing in southern Iraq.
